I'm always being asked by friends and family what I plan to do after High School. Usually, I just say something vague like "Oh, I've got a couple of schools in mind...blah blah...I don't know, maybe something in music...blah blah...". Although things are still pretty vague, I have a better understanding...

At the moment, it's looking like I'll be attending SNU this fall. Why? For starters, because of benefits and a couple of scholarships, I won't have to pay a dime. Also, it's located about two minutes from my house, I've been very well aquainted with a lot of the faculty for a long time, and I just...feel at home there. My dad works there and I've followed him around at work since I was a little kid, getting to know people and building relationships that have meant a lot to me.

When I was deciding on colleges, SNU was never really my number one choice. I sort of just put it as my back-up and, honestly, I didn't even think I'd consider it for a while. I was really considering SMU or OCU. I even went through a time a while back when I was seriously considering a major music conservatory like Juilliard or Curtis. I quickly decided I wouldn't be able to stand the competitiveness and just started looking for Universities with strong music programs.

I had decided I wanted to pursue music performance and ultimately end up as a soloist traveling the world or a cellist in the Chicago Symphony Orchestra or something awesome like that. Then, I came to a time where I felt like I just suddenly...lost all motivation. I hardly practiced anymore, I felt depressed, and I just came to the realization that maybe it's not what I want to do after all...

I still have a huge passion for music. I couldn't picture myself doing anything with my life that doesn't involve music. Maybe I'll get my motivation back and try to follow my dreams, maybe I'll become a music teacher and live in a crappy apartment for the rest of my life, maybe I'll get a sweet gig writing jingles for telivision commercials and make bank. Who knows?

My plan is: go to college and see what doors open up.

I'm sorry if I sound really depressed right now. I'm not, not at all. I'm just attempting to collect my thoughts about life after graduation and trying to enlighten you on what's going on in my head right now. Also, I'm sorry if this was really confusing. I think I confused myself just reading it back again. Oh well. Maybe I'll make another attempt at this soon...haha

OYO plans concert

For The Transcript

The Oklahoma Youth Orchestra and Harrison Academy Symphonic Winds will perform in concert at 3 p.m. Feb. 3 at the Nancy O’Brian Center for the Performing Arts, 1809 Stubbeman Ave.

Under the direction of Dr. John Clinton, the Oklahoma Youth Orchestra is an auditioned ensemble of 80 advanced high school musicians, and is considered the premier youth orchestra in Oklahoma. It is the flagship orchestra of the Guy Fraser Harrison Academy, which sponsors eight instrumental ensembles with a total enrollment of 300 students.

The featured soloist is senior cellist Josh Lester, playing the Cello Concerto of Sir Edward Elgar. In addition, the OYO will perform music by Johannes Brahms and Ludwig van Beethoven.

The Harrison Academy Symphonic Winds, under the direction of Dr. Matthew Mailman and Robyn Hilger, will perform works by Percy Grainger and Franklyn Marks.

Admission to the concert is $5 for individuals and $10 for families. Student admission is $2.

The concert is partially funded through a grant from the Oklahoma Arts Council and the Kirkpatrick Foundation. The Harrison Academy is a member agency of Allied Arts, and all concerts of the Academy are OKCityCard events. -I work on my writing portfolio for English which I have yet to start(big surprise)
-pretty sweet paying quartet gig
-hopefully snow
-enjoying electricity

It's 10:30pm and I have yet to even begin writing my five page term paper that is due tomorrow morning. Probably not the smartest thing I've ever done. I've been so damn busy I've never had any time to write it. Looks like I'll be pulling an all-nighter. This is why my weekend has been shitty.

On the plus side...I did make 4th chair at All-State yesterday.

Now I'm gonna make some tea and knock out this paper.

Right now I really should be studying for the ACT, which is in two days. I'm trying to take a sample test online but I keep getting all ADD about it. Anyways...I'll make a real update when I actually have something to say.
